We are overseen by an independent and experienced non-executive board

Strong corporate governance and business support

Drawn from all key areas of expertise and networks across the livestock supply chain, each CIEL Board Member is a respected industry figure with relevant and complementary business skills. Each bringing unique experience and abilities in the support of the operational CIEL team, Members and research partners Board Members regularly attend events and promote the work of CIEL both nationally and around the world.

    Tim farms in partnership with his wife on a mainly organic grassland farm in Carmarthenshire, Wales. He is a former Chair of the Food Standards Agency for the UK, also:

      • Chair of the Organic Research Centre based in Cirencester
      • Trustee and former Chair of the Farmers Club London
      • Member of the Agricultural Land Tribunal for Wales
      • A fellow of the Royal Agricultural Societies
      • Former President of the National Farmers Union for England and Wales
      • Former Governor of the Institute of Grassland and Environmental Research
      • Former Chair of DairyCo – the dairy sector division of AHDB.

    A veterinary surgeon, Fiona has held non-executive director and governance roles within agriculture, animal health and welfare, and the charitable sector for over 20 years, also:

      • Current NED of Covent Garden Market Authority and also Trustee of the Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI)
      • Previously Chair of AHDB Potatoes and member of the AHDB Board 2014 – 2017 (Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board)
      • Potato Council Board member 2007 – 2014
      • Non-executive Director of The Moredun Foundation and The Moredun Research Institute (1996 – 2007)

    Awarded an OBE in 2019 for services to agriculture, John farms Aberdeen Angus beef and is an experienced agricultural banker and now industry advocate with particular interest in promoting the agrifood industry, also:

      • Chair of Lantra’s National Council in Northern Ireland
      • Vice Chair of Countryside Services Ltd
      • Vice President Royal Ulster Agricultural Society
      • Fellow of Royal Agricultural Societies
      • Former Chair of AgriSearch

    With a focus on food Safety and integrity, agri-tech, animal welfare and scientific R & D, Ursula is the Technical and R&D Director Europe at Moy Park where her career has spanned a number of disciplines – including Sales & Marketing, Operations and Technical management.

      • Key work on pathogens: previously a member of the FSA Joint Working Group on Campylobacter and the ACT board; Research on Campylobacter reduction on farm and factory which culminated in design and implementation of a factory intervention; detailed work on Listeria management and control in high risk facilities
      • Key work on Antibiotic Reduction and AMR including member of Strategic Forum on AMR Stewardship
      • Member of a number of Technical Director Forums including British Poultry Council (BPC)
      • Board member of NIFDA (N Ireland Food & Drink Association) and Industrial Advisory Board of the Institute of Global Food Security (IGFS) at Queens University Belfast

    Awarded a CBE in 2011 for services to science, Quintin is a distinguished researcher with interests in the pharmacology of anti-infective and anti-inflammatory drugs in domestic animals, gaining a PhD in Veterinary Parasitology.
